For particular levels at Kukkido Martial Arts Studio, the student is required to perform Self-Defense Techniques. These techniques are vital in defending oneself, and are explained in detail below.

Basic Self Defense Techniques

Technique 1
Block left hand inside/out as you take a right foot step into a
Horse Stance execute a Double Middle Punch to solar plexus.

Technique 2
Block left hand outside/in as you take a side step with your left foot into a Horse Stance. Execute a Double Middle Punch to the rib area.

Technique 3
As you step out with your left foot, Block with your right hand outside/in and then grab the wrist while executing a right foot Round House Kick to the rib area.

Technique 4
Block with your left hand inside/out as you take a right step forward into a Front Stance. Execute a Knife Hand Strike to the side of the neck.

Technique 5
Block with your left hand inside/out as you take a right step forward into a Front Stance. Execute a Right Elbow Strike to the face area.

Technique 6
Block with your left hand inside/out while stepping forward with your right foot into a Horse Stance. Execute a Double Middle Punch and a right foot Front Snap Kick to the groin area.

Technique 7
Block with your right hand outside/in stepping with your left foot into a Horse Stance. Execute a Double Middle Punch and a right foot Round House Kick to the rib area.

Technique 8
As you step out with your left foot Block inside/out, with your right hand grab the wrist and execute an Axe Kick with the right foot.

Technique 9
Block with your left hand inside/out as you take a right step forward. In a Front Stance, execute a single (right) Knife Hand Strike toward the neck. Grab simultaneously and pull in while executing a single Knife Hand Attack to the other side of the neck in the Back Stance.

Technique 10
Block with your left hand inside/out as you take a right step forward in a Front Stance. Execute a right Elbow Attack toward the head area. Grab simultaneously and pull in while executing a Back Knuckle Strike to the other side of the neck in the Back Stance.

Technique 11
Slide left foot outside the opponent’s foot. Block with the left hand inside/out. Execute a Tiger’s Mouth Strike to the opponent’s throat. Grab the throat simultaneously and hold the arm with your left hand and perform a Sweep with your right foot behind the opponent’s right foot taking the opponent down and finishing with a Punch towards the face.

Technique 12
Slide left foot forward inside/out with left hand Block. Execute a right Elbow Strike to the chest area of the opponent. Execute a Neck Grab with the right hand pulling the head down. Execute a Knee Attack towards the chest.

Technique 13
As you step out with your left foot, Block inside/out with your right hand. Grab your opponent’s right hand with your right and circle your opponent’s hand clockwise until you reach 9 o’clock. Grab your opponent’s hand with both of your hands. Lift your opponent’s hand up to 11 o’clock, step under their arm with your right foot and then reverse pivot counter-clockwise with your left foot into a Back Stance. While holding your opponent’s arm with your left hand twisting gently, execute a right Single Knife Hand Attack towards the back of the neck.

Technique 14
Step forward with your left foot. Block with your left hand outside/in. With your right hand, execute a right Ridge Hand towards your opponent’s solar plexus, keeping your left hand in check with your opponent’s right arm. Execute an upper Ridge Hand Strike towards the opponent’s jaw. Simultaneously take your right foot and Sweep your opponent’s right leg near the knee. Execute a Foot Stomp behind your opponent’s head.

Technique 15
As you step forward with your right foot into a Back Stance between your opponent’s legs, Block with your left hand inside/out. Execute a Pullback Elbow Strike towards your opponent’s rib area. Reach under and hold your opponent’s arm with your left hand while reaching underneath your opponent’s arm and Grab his uniform. Simultaneously circle your left foot counter-clockwise, Pulling your opponent’s arm into the ground. As your opponent hits the ground, finish with a Punch to his face, while applying pressure to his wrist.

Technique 16
Execute an Outside/In Kick with your right foot Blocking your opponent’s arm to the side. Then, without dropping your foot, perform a Side Kick with the same foot towards the rib area.

Technique 17
Execute a rear inside/out Crescent Kick, Blocking your opponent’s hand to the inside. Then with your left foot, execute a Round House Kick towards your opponent’s face.

Technique 18
Execute a Jump Side Kick (right foot), angling off to the left side of your opponent. After the kick, Turn towards your opponent in a Fighting Stance.

Technique 19
Execute a front leg (left foot) Outside/in Kick, Blocking the opponent’s arm to the inside. Then with the rear (right foot), execute a Spinning Heel Kick towards the face of your opponent.

Technique 20
Step out with your left foot. Block right hand inside/out, grabbing the right arm. Execute a Hook Kick and Round House Kick over your opponent’s arm. DO NOT KICK HIS FACE!

Technique 21
Step forward with your left foot into horse stance, making sure your left foot is place to the inside of the attacker’s right foot. At the same time, execute a knife hand block with your right hand, blocking from outside, the quickly grab attacker’s forearm with your right hand. Also at the same time press outside (knife) edge of your left hand against attacker’s right arm. Immediately pull back on attacker’s forearm with your right hand, press forward on his/her arm with the edge of left hand, and sweep your left foot backward against his/her right foot to take him to the ground. Kiyap. Keep holding his/her forearm with your right hand and maintaining pressure on the back of his/her arm with the edge of your left hand while opponent is on the ground.

Technique 22
This is basically Technique #12 with a sweep.

Step forward with left foot, outside the attacker’s right foot, at the same time blocking attacker’s punch from inside with your left hand. Grab his wrist/forearm with your left hand as your execute a right elbow strike to the chest. Strike and immediately grab the base of the attacker’s neck with your right hand, then pull him forward as you do a right knee strike to his/her face or chest. Using right foot, sweep attacker’s right leg from behind, taking him/her down. Keep holding attacker’s forearm with left hand. Punch (right hand) to the face and kiyap.

Technique 23
Step forward with left foot, outside attacker’s right foot, at the same time blocking the punch from outside with your right hand. Grab his/her forearm with right hand. Grab neck of attacker’s uniform with your left hand and pull back, at the same time pressing the sole of your right foot into the back of his right knee, taking him down. Keep holding his/her uniform. Do a right palm heel strike to the face and kiyap.

Technique 24
Step forward with left foot, outside attacker’s right foot. At the same time, block and deflect punching arm upward with an open-handed left high block. Also at the same time, perform a right knife hand strike to attacker’s elbow area. Fold attacker’s arm, keeping left hand on his wrist and right hand on his elbow. Push up on his elbow with your right hand while walking forward two steps, taking him down. His right hand should be between his shoulder and the mat. Remove your right hand and slip left hand over the back of his elbow, pressing his arm into the mat. At the same time, punch with right hand to his ribcage and kiyap.

Technique 25
Step forward with right foot, keeping it outside attacker’s right foot. At the same time, block the punch from inside with left knife hand. Also at the same time, do an upward right ridge hand strike to back of attacker’s arm (triceps area) near the elbow. Place your right hip against attacker’s hip. Push into him with your right hip while pulling gently on his right arm to roll him over your hip and onto the ground. Punch to face and kiyap.

Technique 26
Step forward with right foot, inside attacker’s right foot, blocking from inside with your left hand. Perform a right elbow strike to attacker’s ribs and follow immediately with a right Back fist to his/her face. Kiyap.

Technique 27
Step forward and block as in Technique #26.
Perform a right Elbow strike to attacker’s ribs. Pivot around in right foot into Cat Stance, back to attacker, at the same time performing an assisted left elbow strike to his/her solar plexus (look over your left shoulder as you strike). Kiyap.
NOTE: Assisted left elbow strike: Place palm of right hand over left fist (turn fist palm up) and push with right arm.

Technique 28
Step forward with left foot, outside attacker’s right foot, blocking punch from outside with your left hand. Pivot around on left foot into back stance (right foot forward, alongside attacker) and perform an assisted right Elbow strike to attacker’s temple. Kiyap.
NOTE: Assisted right elbow strike: Place palm of left hand over right fist (fist palm down) and push with left arm.

Technique 29
Step forward and block as in Technique #28
Perform a right Elbow strike to attacker’s solar plexus. Immediately follow with a left Elbow strike to attacker’s temple. Kiyap.

Technique 30
Step forward and block as in Technique #26 Perform a right Knife hand to attacker’s forearm just past the elbow (pressure point strike). Continue with an immediate right Knife hand to attacker’s temple. Kiyap.
